The École des Nouvelles Sciences et Ingénierie (ENSI) – Tangier, through its Directorate of Research and Development, successfully organized and hosted the 1st Edition of the International Symposium on “Innovations in Solar Desalination and Water Management – Challenges, Opportunities, and Perspectives for a Sustainable Future.”

Held on December 27th at Technopark Tangier, this high-level scientific event brought together an exceptional community of international researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, students, and civil society representatives from Colombia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Morocco, reflecting ENSI’s growing role as a regional and international hub for sustainability-driven research and innovation.

Scientific Excellence and Key Outcomes
The symposium featured:
- Keynote Lectures delivered by renowned experts from the UK, Spain, Colombia, and Morocco.
- High-Level Thematic Panels addressing the Water–Energy–Food Nexus:
Panel 1: Harnessing Solar Energy for Thermal Desalination Innovations – Advancing R&D to Address the Water-Energy Nexus.
Panel 2: Climate Resilience and Sustainable Water Management – Strategies, Investments, and Innovations for the Water-Energy-Food Nexus. - Interactive Roundtable Discussions focusing on Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), advanced solar desalination technologies, and innovative water management solutions.
- Strategic Networking Sessions fostering international cooperation in sustainability, decarbonization, and clean water technologies.

Strengthening International Research Partnerships
A major highlight of the symposium was the signing of a strategic research partnership agreement between ENSI and the Doctorate in Engineering Directorate of the University of Cartagena (Colombia). This agreement establishes a solid framework for long-term collaboration in solar desalination, water–energy systems, and sustainable technologies, reinforcing ENSI’s international research positioning.
Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
The symposium directly supports and advances:
- SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
